Tetris Battle, or simply Tetris multiplayer has two players pitted against each other on separate boards. Each time lines are cleared by a player, garbage, extra rows of (usually gray) tetrominoes with small gaps within are sent to their opponent, forcing the opponent to clear them out. The player which manages to outlast the other before "topping off" (losing the game by having no space in the middle for new Tetriminoes) is deemed the winner.
In the image below, you can see that the player to the right had too much garbage (grey tiles) from their opponent filling up the playing field, thus causing them to lose the game.
