TETRiS Classic

Boom! Tetris for Jeff.

Overview

The Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) is a video game competition series, hosted by the Portland Retro Gaming Expo.
The contestants play Nintendo's Tetris (1989) on actual Nintendo Entertainment Systems and CRT televisions. The final rounds are streamed online with live-edited screens and Head-up display to improve viewer experience. The tournament has been dominated by Jonas Neubauer, who has reached the finals in all nine iterations of the tournament and has won seven titles, losing only twice, in 2014 to Harry Hong and in 2018 to Joseph Saelee.

Gameplay

In each round, two players play a game of Tetris with the goal of achieving the highest score possible. Whoever manages to outperform the other wins that round.
It should be noted that this the CTWC has nothing to do with Tetris Battle, in which players "attack" one another by clearing lines. In NES Tetris, each player simply plays on their own system, with no interference between them.
The video below showcases a match between Jonas Neubauer and Joseph Saelee, with Saelee claiming victory over Neubauer, who hadn't lost a tournament for 3 years prior.

(The match starts at 0:30)
