While most AI today leans away from human thought, the idea of a machine sharing human thought processes still exists. These processes differ from
heuristic style computations to neural networks evolving
as they attempt to complete a task. Heuristic style processes consist at their core of many “if then” statements.
Humans use these in everyday situations in our thoughts. An example of a heuristic could be “if my grades are falling, then I should complete my assignments
earlier.” Neural networks use an idea from the brain.
Neural networks
form connections between nodes and, depending on the situation given, assign different values to the nodes. This is similar
to the way the brain utilizes neural connections, and creates stronger neural networks in fields the person studies more. Computer
neural networks are slow at first, similar
to the way humans take a long time before we’re useful.
